This morning, Celebrity Edge arrived in Port Everglades to take her place at Celebrity Cruises’ new Terminal 25. I had just finished breakfast in the main dining room on the final morning of my Celebrity Infinity sailing (live-ish blog here) when one of my tablemates came back into the restaurant to tell me the ship was arriving. Thank you, L! I stepped outside and took a couple of pictures and then started up a Periscope.
While Celebrity Edge entered the port, she was surrounded by ships spraying arcs of water to welcome her. There were several passengers out on the promenade deck and even more crew members. While I talked to people on Celebrity Infinity, both passengers and crew alike were excited for the new features she'll bring. One couple had already booked for November. One couple aiming for Zenith status in the Captain's Club (podcast on loyalty programs here) was holding out for a free cruise reward until they could schedule it on Edge. After the show on the final night, I spoke to some of the performers who were beginning their run in the Celebrity Theater and they were excited about the opportunities for performers in new spaces like Eden. A maitre d' I spoke with was hopeful for a tour of the ship if they happened to both be in a port on the same day. It seems like Celebrity has hit the right balance of revealing new features and keeping enough secret that people want to talk about this ship and what they've heard will be on it.
Billy, Larissa, and I will be on Celebrity Edge starting December 6th featuring Dueling Live Blogs. You’ll get my take and Billy’s take as we spend three nights on Celebrity’s newest ship. We’ll sample the new restaurants. We’ll see the new shows. We’re booked in two Infinite Verandah staterooms down the hall from one another forward of the Magic Carpet.
In a recent update to their iOS and Android app which Richard Fain talked about here, Celebrity introduced controls for the features of the staterooms. I use iOS; Billy uses Android. You’ll get reviews of the app under both OS’s.
